Solitude

by

Caleb Hilston

It was Friday, I wanted to be alone,

I needed to get away from my home.

So I took a walk, to no place in particular.

Preferring the old methods, to the vehicular.

I soon came upon, a world undiscovered,

a place no modern man has ever bothered.

A world filled with forests, ancient and serene.

Of castles and temples, and structures,

the likes of which have never been seen.

I began my journey, taking the path that led me nowhere,

enjoying the sights and breathing the air.

When all of sudden,

the two roads diverged in the yellow wood.

I did not know which one to choose,

if I could I would.

I continued, letting my legs lead the way.

I had to move, I could not stay.

The path took me to houses and villages

all of which were bare.

I thought "What kind of danger would make them leave here?"

I stopped and listened,

something did not seem right.

There were no birds singing, no creatures of the light.

I felt strange, a feeling of sorrow, of pain and fright.

The wind blew, the clouds took over the sky.

I had a sense of foreboding, I did not know why.

And darkness came, with overwhelming force,

I fled the scene faster than any horse!

I never returned to that land,

alone and forsaken,

a place darkness has taken.

I stay home now with the ones I love, I cherish them like no other.

Never returning to solitude, a place no man should bother....
This is a poem I wrote for lit class. It's more of a short story, but it rhymes. So hey.

Hope you like. I'm personally proud of it.

And I should mention, in the assignment, we had to write a single line, and swap it with a person. So I had to use the line "Two roads diverge in a yellow wood." Just saying. ;)

A very in-vocative piece. Well written too.
